A brutal cool snap moved east from the Rockies bringing snow and record lows to Washington Oregon Idaho and Utah. Idaho Falls reported 34 below zero and Rexburg’s drifted tracks delayed trains with temperatures near 40 below. Utah and Nevada recorded deep freezes as the mercury dipped to ten below in Denver and Reno registered one below zero.
Training with the American 75 millimeter guns will end as French 75s are issued to regular army units and the National Guard. Training for the French gun extends to artillery units of the regular army, National Guard, and organized reserves. Two officers from each corps area will attend a ten week course at Fort Sill beginning March 1.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the general wholesale price level remained steady in November and December at an index of 149. Prices for foodstuffs, farm products and other items declined, while fuel rose slightly and building materials gained 3 percent in December. Overall, prices in December were 21 percent below the prior year.
New York reports that a lead key check believed to have served Arnold's staff was uncovered by the New York Historical Society field exploration team. The artifact, stamped Arnold's Staff on one side and Con Army on the other, was found with two copper coins and is linked to Arnold's West Point escape.

Dan Ingram a 28 year old Black truckman for the New York Central admitted helping steal a mail pouch in Elkhart Indiana claiming it held 500000. He said George E Scruggs a white man planned and executed the theft and that Scruggs later discarded the pouch in a river after finding no cash. Scruggs has been detained.
The report lists Wells at 47 below and Elko at 45 below, indicating extreme cold in northern Nevada with temperatures around 8 o'clock readings.

Mrs Margaret Anderson of Sioux Falls S D joined a long line of civilians outside the White House today seeking the return of her son, a stray soldier. The year old mother walked much of the way to Washington hoping prayers would move officials to locate and bring him home.
After meeting the president Mrs Anderson asserted hope for relief for her son Jo serving a two year term at Leavenworth on a desertion charge. Jo had served in Company K 139th Infantry 35th Division, was wounded in action, left the army, then enlisted in a coast artillery unit under another name. She claimed the president should consult the Department of Justice for a pardon.
Ottawa plans an all Canadian route for a 440 mile canal from Montreal to Lake Huron via Mattawa Lake Nipissing and the French river. A 758 foot total lockage and up to one million horsepower are cited with Chaudiere falls near Ottawa expected to double output.

Centralia Washington January 19 AP women's clubs raise funds to erect a memorial chair and tablet to George Washington a negro who laid out the original townsite. The city council reserves park space for the memorial. Washington born Virginia 1817 taken to Ohio by white family five years later. In 1852 he settled at Centralia opened an inn and plotted a town on his donation claim. He amassed two sections of land through business success.
Tacoma city clerk Mrs. Blanche Funk Miller defends her ruling that local women need not reveal exact ages when registering to vote. She notes male clerks in other Washington cities require precise ages but would change only if ordered by the attorney general. Miller argues it is folly to demand exact ages since women will not provide them.
Washington January 19 AP Figures from the Department of Agriculture show expanded bonded warehouses for farm products. Licenses total 277 cotton warehouses capacity 1 200 000 bales 276 grain warehouses capacity about 14 000 000 bushels 18 wool warehouses capacity one seventh of annual output and five tobacco warehouses.
The U S Weather Bureau reports in Pocatello that Wednesday night reached twenty degrees below zero, the coldest January reading on record for the station. Officials say the temperature is within three-fourths of a degree of the city’s all time January low, marking the coldest spell since the bureau’s 1890 establishment.

The technique aims to open a new field of investigation in the cotton industry.
Tokio, Jan 19 AP reports a conference of Japanese and American silk manufacturers will be held in Tokio next April for a peace exhibition proposed by leaders of the Japan Seal Cultural association and the Central Silk Men's association. The project aims to align silk producers and foreign consumers to improve sericultural industry in Japan.
