Paris reports President Peixotto of the American Chamber of Commerce announced at the annual dinner that an international economic organization is emerging. He argued France’s allies cannot meet its needs and that the United States alone can supply them, urging closer U S France economic ties and cooperation.

Tokio January 18 King George's coronation gift to Emperor Yoshihito is a bay horse named Franconi. Imported from India the horse arrived at the imperial stables after a racing career in England and India. Franconi, by Hippodrome out of Royal Hampton, won at Doncaster as a three year old and was bought by the Indian government for stud purposes.
Subscriptions to France's 5 percent war loan in Japan closed around three million francs. Foreigner subscribers dominated the total, enabled by favorable exchange rates. A bond cost yen 29,829, equal to francs 87.25 at the time, with 2 francs 92? centimes per yen.
Madison officials report regents meet to act on an investigative committee recommendation. The panel reportedly favors ending intercollegiate sports. Home or intramural programs could replace varsity athletics if approved.

Fighting broke out yesterday at Guerrero 125 miles northwest as bandits battled Carranza forces, according to advices reached Chiluahua City. Local reports describe exchanges of fire with casualties feared on both sides.

Capture occurred Friday 14 miles west of Columbus New Mexico, below the border. Americans did not cross into Mexico. they blocked border crossing.
Seattle police and deputy sheriffs raided the Rainier club locating 400 quarts of whiskey champagne gin and other intoxicants. The hunt found surplus liquor disposed to members after the January 1 prohibition start and additional excess in members rooms. Judge F W Brown aided the search and prosecutors will decide whether officers or members face charges after court rulings on today’s seizures.
