J T Young was chosen president while absent as proxies were left by Ab sent members not allowed to be voted. Corliss named secretary in his absence. Votes were cast under proxy rules and limited participation.
At a meeting in Pocatello last night the Itella Commercial Club formed a new board. President Joe T. Young and Vice President John Hood were elected with D. W. Church as treasurer and B. B. Corliss as secretary. Proxies for Corliss and Hood were contested, leading to their temporary exclusion but later results show their official roles. The newly elected leader, Young, is longtime Gate City resident and Idaho Wholesale Grocery manager. A date for the next meeting remains to be announced.
The twenty first annual United Mine Workers of America convention opens in Tomlinson Hall Indianapolis with about 1600 delegates from the United States Canada and Nova Scotia in attendance. President Lewis is expected to seek a government bureau of mines amid calls for federal mine regulation following the Cherry Illinois disaster.
Eight men install modern automatic equipment at the Idaho Independent Telephone company central exchange in Pocatello. Over 300 subscribers already secured as the system opens, with central office on North Main Street over Neilson & Sons. The new plant costs nearly fifty thousand dollars and replaces hello girls with automated dialing.
The United States circuit court of appeals denied John R. Walsh’s motion for a new trial over juror misconduct. He is bound for Leavenworth with District and federal officials, while habeas corpus actions may proceed.

At West Center street a burglary scare led Arthur Quinn to fire several shots at a man at a rear window. Joe Kelly, found semi conscious behind the Holmes candy store, later told police he was drunk and paid a $10 fine. He wandered to Quinn & Son's door then collapsed from the noise.
Berlin reports the German government replied to the U S memorandum on the tariff between Germany and the United States. Germany does not accept all American demands especially on meat imports, but hopes the reply will satisfy Washington. The note conveys gravity as trade hostilities loom if the U S insists on more.
