Idaho Taxes Return Revenue From Two New Levies
State Auditor Ernest C. Hansen reported that 1945 saw $1,354,335.43 from two new Idaho taxes. A one cent per gallon gasoline excise tax raised $824,806.78 since March 19, 1945, while a two cent per package cigarette tax brought in $529,528.56. The gasoline levy increased the rate from five to six cents per gallon and funds go to the highway postwar fund with matching-state funds. The one cent postwar tax expires March 1, 1947.

Child Hit By Car In Intersection Accident
Five year old Pete Young son of D W Young of 1435 South Third was struck at 2 p m Sunday at Third and Lawson by a car driven by Clifford Taylor 16 of 1556 South Second. He was taken to a hospital where Dr Ralph B Hogstead said he had no broken bones but needed observation. Taylor said he was traveling south on Third and turning onto Lawton when he struck the boy who was walking in the street with two companions.

Pair Returns After Escape from Eagle Island Prison Farm

The fire department logged three calls on the 12th for a two story house at 317 North 11th owned by Theo Winter from an overheated flue, a false alarm at Union Pacific hospital wards, and a soot chimney fire at 138 North 13th owned by D A Martin with no damage. On Sunday a fire in an automobile a 35 Chrysler owned by R A Rossiter caused radiator wiring damage. Today a house at 606 North Arthur owned by Mrs William McCarty and occupied by Strekingfingers caught fire from an overheated stove pipe and was extinguished with no damage.

In district court Judge Charles F. Koelsch sentenced William Blinkensop to 1 to 25 years and William Graves to 10 to 25 years in state prison after they pled guilty to kidnapping two men.
