Snowstorm Swamps Utah and Idaho Region

A snowstorm blanketed northern Utah and southeastern Idaho, dropping five inches in Ogden and delaying Salt Lake City as the system moved south. Pocatello saw a rapid rise from 26 to 41 above zero, with Idaho Falls also whitened. Air travel halted at Salt Lake City and Helena area flights.

Blaze Levels Fuse Plant at Hercules Powder Yard

Fire destroyed a fuse compound building at the Hercules Powder plant in Kenil, New Jersey. Three men were injured, admitted to Dover General Hospital, in a blaze blamed on a flash in the nitrating section. The spokesman said damage was slight. the plant had suffered a catastrophic explosion last September 12 that killed 51 people.
