Washington reports 1928 foreign trade at 5.129 billion dollars in exports with a 1.039 billion dollar trade surplus as prices lift volumes. Gold exports total 560.8 million, imports 168.9 million, net loss 391.9 million, while silver exports rise to 87.4 million.
W M Jeffers and H J Plumhof of the Union Pacific visited Pocatello to reassure residents that there will be no drastic policy changes or retrenchment. In American Falls Idaho a coroner's jury met to hear evidence on the shooting of 41 year old Frank Moore on his farm near Roy. Mrs Moore who was held in connection with the incident testified she fired as Moore pursued their 14 year old stepdaughter with a rifle after returning home drunk and threatening the children. She claimed she disarmed him and sent a 12 year old son for help to a nearby schoolhouse where a dance was in progress.
In Bellefonte Pennsylvania three men Charles Melior Benjamin Demarowski and Tony Lucitt were executed by electric chair for murders tied to moonshine trafficking and a theatre hold up. Lucitt and accomplice Wenrich had shot police in February 1928. Melior killed a theatre manager in March. Demarowski killed his wife in April 1928.

The engagement of Princess Martha of Sweden to Crown Prince Olaf of Norway was announced. Martha, born March 28 1901, is daughter of Prince Charles and sister of Princess Astrid. Olaf, born July 2 1903, is son of King Haakon and Queen Maude.

Fifty volunteers escorting the oomer Mareeba were assaulted by more than a thousand waterside workers in Port Adelaide. The crowd hurled rocks and iron lumps, driving the volunteers from the wharf until police units arrived and used batons to restore order.
Retail coal dealers told the senate interstate commerce committee that a proposed bituminous coal commission would create a hostile federal bureaucracy, raise soft coal prices, and underwrite industry profits.
