The court indicated Harry K Thaw may be released on bail after a hearing in January in Pittsburgh. His trustee notes Thaw could engage in business locally and return to the state, with a decision expected on whether bail is granted.
New York reports William Thaw is released without restrictions. It is agreed he has an excellent chance of being admitted to bail after the hearing.
Pittsburg, Jan 12. Thaw's trustee Roger O Mara says there are no design plans for the subject after release and that Thaw would likely start a business in Pennsylvania. He declares to establish Thaw's sanity and believes he has the ability to start and sustain a successful venture.

On Kinshium island slight quakes were followed by an eruption on Sakura island. Two villages were buried in ashes, and rescue boats faced heavy ash fallout making relief work difficult. Located near Tokio, the event disrupted local life and prompted emergency efforts.
Washington reports a spreading cold wave with the mercury dropping across the country. Western Minnesota centers the chill as temperatures fall to record lows east of the Rockies. American charge d affaires O'Shaughnessy reached Mexico City after a fifteen hour wait for a track to be cleared. Federal troops searched the wreck for rebels without success. He declined to describe the incident.
Pretoria reports martial law to be proclaimed in the Transvaal and Orange Free State with executions at sight for dynamiters. A failed bridge bombing north of the city damaged only track. The government plans to run trains tomorrow as non-union railroad shops strike, not securing street car support.
In Rome on January 12 representatives of all parties attended the removal of seals from Cardinal Rampolla's apartment and an inventory was made. The investigating judge has cited several witnesses to appear tomorrow regarding the disappearance of the cardinal's last will.

Utah Power & Light purchased the old McCammon light plant from the Harkness estate. The deal includes the plant equipment and a village operating franchise, with operation to continue until a branch line is built by midsummer. A Grace Preston Downey route is planned for the new line.
