Ilo high school presents the operetta The Peres Teller directed by Rampton Barlow with two casts. Wednesday performance for students features Nancy Harrison Barry Todd Howard McLaughlin Ronald Harker Bonnie Paulsen Jerry Briggs Joe Boyes Allen Grover. Thursday show for the public includes Sharlene Millward Dave Haller Ray Allen Fred Nelson Kenneth Nilson Audrey Weese Janis Burton Jack Reese. Some actors perform both nights: Roger Kerr Bert Spencer Dawn Millward Joan Falter Joe Bosquet.
Former Senator Henry C. Dworshak of Idaho said he is glad the Army Engineers have asked for funds to build the first Snake River navigation dam. Senator Dworshak and his wife plan to drive home to Burley today after the announcement.
Jerry Chendgren of Boise and Elizabeth Schubert of Gooding led Idaho in the Make It Yourself With Wool event at the 56th annual Idaho Wool Growers convention banquet. Chendgren won junior division top honors with a black box-type jacket suit while Schubert captured senior division first for her brown dress and clever hat and second for a plaid suit. Other awardees spanned jewelry, dress lengths, and wool blankets across Challis Burley Parma Notus Merrill Nampa Pocatello and Idaho Falls. About 500 attended the banquet and dance.
Weather's wintry blast sweeps the west with snow and ice from the Texas panhandle to the Pacific coast. Southern California reports up to six inches in Altadena Montrose and Tujunga while Pasadena shows over two inches on Colorado Boulevard.
Leo H. Houtz was sworn in as chairman of the state industrial accident board for a two year term. He succeeds B. W. Oppenheim who was recently reappointed to the board.
Infant Prince Charles opened his first savings account today with the government backed National Savings movement announcing the Buckingham Palace group enrollment. Officials say the move should spark savings in thousands of homes nationwide.
Mrs Parilla Farnan announced as successor was sworn in as Nez Perce county school superintendent that she would test her rival’s qualifications in court. Mrs Beryl Clem was sworn in yesterday after being elected in November. Both are Democrats though Farnan failed to win the party nomination. County prosecutor Earle W Morgan ruled Farnan’s protest over Clem’s lack of state superintendent or supervisor certificate was not enough to stop Clem from taking office.
The Idaho House introduced eight bills including a two term president constitutional amendment, a Snake River compact commission, a $310 387.95 heating plant funding package for three state institutions, and recodification of the medical practices act. The proposed amendment requires three fourths of states for adoption and limits presidential terms. commissions would coordinate water distribution with Wyoming and federal partners. Funding would finish heating projects at the University of Idaho Idaho State College and State Hospital North. The medical practices act revision aims to improve reciprocity and permit issuing more medical licenses.
At Pocatello the Idaho Wool Growers association wraps three days of meetings with a closing session to elect new officers and act on resolutions aimed at rebuilding the wool industry. Leaders propose tariff measures, price control limits, funding for reseeding and brush control, and predatory animal programs. Key speakers include J M Jones and Berry N Duff.

A New York county grand jury indicted Jack Levy of Miami William Rivlin Joseph Aronowitz and Philip Levi on charges of attempting to bribe a George Washington University player to fix games at Madison Square Garden. A federal grand jury in Washington indicted three of the defendants all freed on $20 000 bail. The group denied the charges after arrest last Tuesday night.
Bannock county commissioners swept through county operations after sworn in, laying off 21 employees from the County Surveyor W. P. Havenor’s office and the highway department. The move, blamed on bad weather, leaves a skeleton crew for emergencies and maintenance while the snow plow fleet sits idle.
A downtown fire in Blackfoot started about 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Boyle building and spread to the J C Penney store. Firemen battled sub zero conditions, one Penney wall collapsed, and total damage was about 75 000 dollars with most losses on the upper floors while main-floor shops were saved.
New York reports 6 000 retailers at the National Retail Dry Goods association convention foresee a shift to lower prices and better value. Christmas sales exceeded last year only slightly, with total 1948 figures about five percent above 1947. Retailers anticipate selective price cuts and improved value rather than a broad price break, though wage and government spending increases could reverse the trend.
