Washington January 11 AP Instructions were given to report the tax bill by February 11 and then consider soldiers bonus legislation. Rep Longworth led Republicans behind closed doors aiming to exclude other measures, while amendments to speed bonus action were rejected. The fight could shift to the floor if the Ways and Means Committee stalls.
London January 11 AP reports L-24 rammed by the dreadnought Resolution and sank thirty fathoms deep about eleven miles south of Portland hill. Forty three crewmen remain unaccounted as salvage efforts continue amid dark seas and limited divers access.
Ex Premier Venizelos decides to form a cabinet with himself as premier and Georges Roussos as foreign minister after General Danglis failed to form a ministry. Orthodox liberals refuse to cooperate and Kanaedar is asked but declines. Venizelos warned Cretans he may quit if allies do not join.

Washington January 11 AP Senator James E Watson of Indiana announced he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination. The withdrawal leaves the Indiana primary open for President Coolidge with Ewing Emison of Vincennes as the Coolidge campaign manager in the state.
Helena January 11 AP The Montana supreme court rules last legislative appropriations invalid finding Governor Dixon overstepped authority by reducing amounts on a percentage basis and signing with qualifications. The ruling nullifies thousands of dollars in site warrants and related appropriations.
Mexico City reports Secretary of the Interior Enrique Celaya states rebels led by de La Huerta have transgressed laws and will be punished. Elsewhere, rebel forces menace Tepic and Navarit, with district railways suspended. embargos and demoralization rise among oil interests and supporters in Tuxpam.
American oil companies with holdings in the Semene district face a demand from Adolfo de La Huerta's revolutionary forces to loan 20 000 pesos each, or about 16 000 dollars, with a 48 hour deadline. One company reportedly complied as tensions rise over taxes and station closures near Tuxpa.
Tokyo sources announce the wedding of Prince Regent Hirohito and Princess Nagako daughter of Prince Kuni will be solemnized January 28. The official statement confirms the union as a royal milestone.

In Salt Lake City two people are questioned after Croner, a prominent mining figure and Stanford graduate formerly of Los Angeles, was found dead from a heart wound after a party at a rooming house. Police say most party members are being questioned. Croner’s wife travels from Los Angeles to assist the investigation.
Ellsworth Bassett a Madison house painter and driver visited his wife at the post office then resigned from his job after visiting Nina Sanderson in New York. He cited publicity and denied romantic relations with the novelist. Mrs Bassett said she would pursue no divorce for now.
Harrisburg AP reports Governor Pinchot announced his candidacy for delegate at large to the Republican national convention next June in a move to influence party platform and nomination.
Salt Lake City January 11 AP The Utah board of pardons meets in special session denying clemency to Omer R Woods condemned for the 1922 murder of his wife in Salt Lake City He will face a firing squad on January 16 as his last option for escape was rejected Woods had filed an affidavit alleging Idaho man A C Vadney was involved in the crime and that his attorneys aided insanity claims Governor Mabey met Woods for two hours at the state prison and considered the new allegations
