Red Cross Institute Draws Idaho Delegates to Bannock

Delegates from 21 Idaho counties attend the Red Cross Institute at Hotel Bannock. Boise reports warn Idaho motorists to have tires inspected immediately per government orders. OPA administrator Walter T. Movie Star Seeks Annulment Over Ill-Fated Marriage

Lana Turner filed for annulment of her marriage to Stephen Crane in Los Angeles court under her name Julie Jean Crane. The suit says Crane had not secured a final divorce from Carol Kurtz before their July wedding after learning his first wife did not obtain an interlocutory decree until last month. Turner, 22, and Crane, 27, eloped to Las Vegas prior to their July nuptials.

Reform Club Demands Local Gambling Devices Removal

A petition to remove all slot machines marble and pin ball games and to close night clubs beer halls and theaters at midnight was submitted to the city council by A Satterfield Heber C Snell and Rev Paul DeF Mortimore. The Allied Civic forces presented the petition containing about 14 pages of names. Police Chief R J Roubidoux said midnight closing has been enforced for over a year and the city has banned slot machines with marble and pin ball machines recently removed by owners.

German sub up Mississippi near New Orleans tale

London radio claimed a German submarine traveled 90 miles up the Mississippi to within a few miles of New Orleans to destroy a bridge but no independent confirmation exists. In New Orleans the navy declined to comment on the broadcast and officials said they knew nothing of the raid.

Cupid Drives Marriage Licenses Rise in Bannock County 1942

Statistics by deputy county clerk Sarah E. Devaney show Pocatello bases boosted Cupid activity in 1942 Bannock County issuing 603 marriage licenses, up from 477 the year before. The 126 increase is largely due to marriages contracted by men in military service stationed in Pocatello.
