Lava Springs foundation blocks lease bid for state resort
The Lava Hot Springs foundation board stopped the state land board from leasing the 187 acre Portneuf river resort to Western Hotel Co. The land board had approved a 30 year lease with minimum 3600 yearly rent and 25000 in first decade improvements, but the foundation rejected the bid 2 to 1 while the land board’s vote was 4 to 1 to approve. Five bids were considered and eight were rejected as not protecting state interests.

Two men from Minot North Dakota William Watts 23 and Francis Freund 24 confessed Friday’s 2500 holdup of the Lamont state bank at St John Washington. They were captured seven hours later at Dishman Washington and arraigned on two counts of kidnaping. Police recovered all stolen money four guns and the weapon used in the robbery.
