AP reports two robbers in Maurice Iowa raid near Sioux City were captured at Hawarden Iowa after a running gun battle. One bandit and three officers wounded in Maurice as posse led by Hugo Synhorst pursued the attackers. loot not obtained. Authorities later said two robbers had not been captured and may have fled west into South Dakota.
Italian rancher Mike Ferentero is dead and his wife and three children are fatally injured after an attack by three men described as bandits. The crime occurred Tuesday night near El Centro California and was discovered by neighbor C ie Witt Church who heard the cries and moans from the Ferentre home.

Pilot Henry G. Boonstra of the air mail service fell about 10 000 feet near Wanship Utah when high winds and bad weather caused his craft to crash. He regained consciousness after three hours and injuries were treated. mail cargo survived intact. Boonstra, a veteran flyer from Lafayette Indiana, previously survived a similar wreck in a prior blizzard.

The House adopted a resolution to ask the president for a report on the sugar equalization board. Secretary Melton warned in a letter against tax exempt securities, saying the privilege fuels borrowing and rising public debt.
Washington reports Dr. Crissinger the current comptroller of the currency will be nominated as a governor of the Federal Reserve Board within days. He will replace the retiring Governor W P G Harding.
Los Angeles AP reports Charles F. Ames of Alladena born in Bridgewater Massachusetts in 1818 observed his 105th birthday. When asked for a gift he quipped that a bottle of real old time whisky wouldn’t go so bad.
National cemetery workers guard the Cypress Hills grave of James Jones amid reports treasury agent William B. Williams will seek legal permission to open the coffin to search for Russian crown jewels allegedly smuggled into the United States in 1920 aboard the Vladivostok.
Kelso Washington January 5 AP two deaths from the bridge collapse increased the tally to two with 23 missing. Injured include Larry Kirk and George J McDonald who died or remained hospitalized. Grapplers from Portland expected to aid in river recovery while coroner W J Johnson and deputy will take office January 8. An inquest may be delayed by further body recoveries.

A Sumner party went to Rosewood to chase two suspects linked to a white woman assault. The sale featured loads of steers and purebred cattle to be auctioned today in Los Angeles.
