From San Luis Obispo California January 3 reports say J F Cox an auto mechanic of Orcutt will receive 2 000 000 dollars in cash on January 15 as part payment of patent rights related to a process for removing carbon in oil. The total sum to be paid Cox is reported as 7 000 000 dollars.
Vancouver police report three pearls were found in an oyster pattie purchased in a local restaurant by Ernest M. Allen son of the supreme court registrar. No harm to the customer was noted and the pearls were likely jewelry mishap.
Denver oilman Courtland Dines injuries from a gunshot in Mabel Normand’s apartment as chauffeur Horace Greer claims self defense. Miss Purviance and Miss Normand confront nervous breakdowns and uncertain movie plans hang on police findings and studio decisions.
Marion Ohio January 3 AP soldiers guarding President Harding’s tomb will shoot directly at anyone causing night disturbances. Lt R H Harriman said disturbances include rocks thrown at guard houses and a bugle sounded at midnight. Riot guns with buckshot are prepared as actions continue. No reason for the disturbances is known.
Mexico City reports rebel forces threaten Panchucax Hidalgo capital northeast of the city have been defeated. Veracruz headquarters say an advance on Puebla and Mexico City would begin today. Mexico City notes the defeat of General Cardenas before Guadalajara and claims federals defeated General Figueroa with desertions. Jade unionists and reeworkmen join federal colors.

Washington January 8 AP Harry Payne Whitney New York banker and sportsman testified before the Senate public lands committee about his role in financing corporations tied to the Teapot Dome lease. He disclosed purchasing 105 000 Mammoth Oil and Sinclair Oil shares in 1922 in three blocks with securities and Reynolds Tobacco exchanges totaling substantial value. The panel also planned to hear Edward B McLean regarding a $100 000 loan to Albert B Fall linked to the lease.
New York lawyer Bartholomew B. Coyne confirms Thaw has sought a sanity ruling in Pennsylvania courts. Coyne plans to confer with Thaw at Kirkbride asylum as reports link a potential surrender to face 1917 hotel whipping charges. Some senators criticized the measure as vague but it was approved. The rule follows the Newberry precedent allowing inquiry into excessive and illegal expenditures and other alleged irregularities.
Arthur Townley former president of the National Non Partisan League and J J Hastings former cashier of the Scandinavian American Bank Fargo face embezzlement warrants. Townley may be in Kansas or Nebraska guiding Producers National Alliance work Hastings reportedly in St Paul authorities say the warrants allege the conversion of about 79 Consumers United States to personal use. Warrants issued at the request of Attorney H F Horner.

At the Corn Products starch plant in Pekin Illinois a massive dust explosion killed and injured a large number of workers. Fire hindered rescue as flames burned bodies and several men remained uncounted among the ruins. Identified dead include Harms Harding Bechmidt Kumier Hooper and Vogeilsang. The plant, a major Pekin employer, employed about 250 workers and had recently undergone improvements.
