Boise Statesman reports heavy activity in the Idaho senatorial race with Judge Heyburn Standrod Borah and Shoup camps vying. Delegations from northern counties rally, caucuses planned, and supporters praise steps toward a Republican caucus to settle the nomination.
In London the New Market by election to replace the late Harry McCallum produced a Liberal victory for O D Rose 4414 to 3907 over L Brassey Conservative. The campaign saw heavy motor car use by horsemen and officials, depleting oil supplies as votes were gathered. A Lords report links rising betting on horse racing to social ills and urges banning tipster ads and harsher penalties for street betting on minors.
Formal notices of contests were filed today with the Secretary of State against every Democratic member of the House and Senate whose seats had not previously been contested. Allegations allege fraud and intimidation at the polls miscounts of ballots and voting by ineligible voters. The move mirrors Democratic challenges to Republican Senators.

The blockading warships moved into Porto Cabello Venezuela taking Venezuelan vessels from the inner harbor. Forces landed on the wharf but the occupation was temporary and no firing occurred causing great public excitement. Washington reported no reply from London Berlin or Rome on arbitration proposals, holiday season delaying responses.
Boise Jan 3 Only a handful of Democratic members have arrived and no party organization is formed. On the ground, Mitchell of Idaho appears to have backing for speaker in caucus while Avery Moore will nominate him and push endorsements of Republican nominees for house attaches. Moore plans a complimentary ballot for Senator Heitfeldt and seeks to keep Democrats from participation in the Republican contest.
James H. Rotin, missing president of the Bank of Silverton, was found dead three miles from town. He shot himself in the head amid rumors of $500,000 personal wealth and bank liabilities around $300,000. Officials say the bank is sound and Rotin was likely mentally deranged.
Manila editor Manuel Rango of Libertas is sentenced to six months hard labor and a 2000 peso fine for selling General Bell.
The Supreme Court sustained Governor Hunt's removal of State Engineer Ross as an administrative act, ruling the court would not probe the cause. Ross is out of town and expected to stay away until Governor Hunt leaves office next Monday.

The final round of the fourth annual chess tournament among Cornell Brown and Pennsylvania was played in New York. Cornell won the series and secured the trophy permanently.
