Washington D C January 2 The house agreed to vote on the woman suffrage constitutional amendment on January 12 A protest from business concerns over export restrictions of war munitions to European belligerents was filed in the house
Boise jan 2 the state legislature convenes monday jan 4 at noon officials current and incoming will take the oath in the house of representatives with chief justice sullivan administering the pledge the ceremony follows the governor and staff at the old capitol and includes key officials such as lieutenant governor treasurer auditor attorney general and mining inspector presented by the governor and staff to justice sullivan for oath and official relief from office.
Flight Commander Francis Hewlett recounts a raid on the German naval base at Cuxhaven. He says dense fog brought him near Schleswig and German territory, that he fired bombs on a German vessel, and that after engine trouble he was picked up by a Dutch trawler and later sank his hydroplane before boarding.
Philadelphia January 2 The federal district court refused the government's petition to dissolve the Keystone Watch Case Co for Sherman act violations. The ruling preserves the company in its current form and blocks anticipated action.
Tucson report notes a test case after Arizona prohibition law took effect. Louis Gherna was arrested for selling a pint of whiskey in a planned arrest to challenge the self executing prohibition provisions. A habeas corpus writ to the state supreme court is sought.
Federal district court overruled immunity pleas by John L. Billard James S Elton and William Skinner in indictments charging criminal Sherman act violations tied to their actions as New Haven directors. They argued immunity due to ICC testimony prior to indictments.

London June 2 The Admiralty lists Captain Loxley and thirty four officers as lost with the battleship Formidable sunk yesterday. Nine midshipmen are named in the list. Brixham survivors report the ship was struck abaft the magazine but it was not reached as heavy seas prevented boats from launching and many were damaged.
Berlin reports repulsed Freced attacks near Nieuport Belgium and claims gains in Argonne forest. Paris notes minor battles along the front with German and French forces exchanging attacks while French forces claim occupation of three new lines of houses in Steinbach after days of street fighting.
The Hague Jan 2 Henry Van Dyke the American minister to the Netherlands turned over 1400 dollars given by the St Nicholas society of New York to the Netherlands Red Cross for Belgian relief He has distributed thirty seven boxes of clothing and blankets from American societies to destitute Belgians in Holland.
Incendiary blaze at the parish house behind St. Johns Greek Catholic Church in Cleveland D. killed Rev. Stephen Makara 42 and his housekeeper. Police suspect arson. the pastor was found dead in bed after recent assault by two men, motive unknown.
Amsterdam reports a local paper says the Berlin press summary states exequaturs of consuls are no longer binding in territories occupied by German forces during the war.
Town Marshal Dave Hoag was severely beaten by Matthew Dalton after a disturbance at a dance. Deputy Sheriff Bob Lewis aided as Dalton faced arrest, but Dalton later walked away from the night train and was jailed in Pocatello awaiting a hearing.
Nogales Arizona January 2 Justice Coughlin of Patagonia slept in a saloon all night to prevent violation of the prohibition law. The saloon has poolrooms and stays open at night, so the justice slept in the saloon end to deter any sale of liquor.
The Idaho state teachers convention in Boise closed the year after approving resolutions to present to the upcoming legislature. Delegates from Pocatello included Prof Miles F Reed and Prof N B Adkison. Supt Walter R Siders could not attend. Officers were elected, including President V Melda Hillis and Secretary Ivy Wilson.
Boston, Jan 2 Dr James H Shaw a noted physician and brother of Dr Anna Howard Shaw president of the National Woman Suffrage Association died today aged 76.
A British eye witness at the front says German prisoners show gloom yet reflect no real distress among troops. He notes Germans believe Russia’s defeat is decisive and England and France are exhausted and ready for peace, though the war may last longer than expected.
One of the largest western art shows to date opens next week at the Minneapolis Art Museum. The collection, valued at $2,000,000, comes from private and public collections and will be on display throughout January.
New Orleans news reports volatile contents found in hay aboard the British steamer Rembrandt from Baltimore. The ship, carrying horses for the Allies, caught fire and returned to port after the blaze was discovered by Captain A Edlein.

Washington January 2 The Carranza army reports the capture of San Luis Potosi after a bloody battle. An aeroplane aided the assault by directing the fighting following a scouting expedition from Galveston to the Carranza agency.
