Governor Ross was advised by telegrams that north Idaho flood conditions are easing as waters drop due to protective dikes and prior measures. Messages from Sandpoint and Coeur d Alene cited improved conditions, with limited property loss and continued damage to roads and bridges.
Grand Rapids Mich December 26 AP authorities search southern Michigan for William McCann 20 tied to the death of Margaret Peevey 22 deaf mute whose body was found near Grand Rapids. Sheriff Fred Kelley says the former sweetheart fled after a quarrel and took money from his mother.
A natural dam burst at Clatskanie Oregon killed Milo Allen and three of his sons George 30 Robert 12 and Donald 7. Mrs Allen second wife Elsie 17 Eldon 17 and Clifford 9 were pulled from wreckage. the mother is critically injured. Floods threatened eastern Washington northern Idaho and Coeur d’Alene while Lake Couer d’Alene rose to record levels. Twenty thousand sandbags were piled in Coeur d’Alene to defend the affluent district as others faced rising waters.
In Nevada a flurry of activity signals a possible revival of silver mining as prices rise and open market operations boost gold value. Towns including Talapoosa Tuscarora Eureka Pioche Tonopah Belmont Hamilton Chalk Mountain and Hannapah buzz with plans to reopen abandoned mines and expand ore production.
