New York December 24 soldiers returning home lodge widespread complaints about excessive charges for services at YMCA canteens overseas. The issues will be referred to the War Department for investigation.
Paris dispatch details President Wilson and wife touring Paris for Christmas shopping. He will leave Paris for England to meet troops at Chan t, dine with officers, review troops, and deliver a prepared address. They plan a Buckingham Palace banquet as guest of King George.
The city of Rome will grant its freedom to President Wilson during his visit, marking a ceremonial honor by the Italian capital.
Former Russian minister Paul N Milukoff, accused last July of Germanophile leanings, has been obliged to leave Paris according to Matin. His presence in the city is considered unnecessary.
London reports from Reuters indicate 3200 detainees are held in Kresti penitentiary in Petrograd by Bolshevik authorities. Estonian defense officials say Bolsheviks advance across Estonian territory, taking Dorpat and pushing Estonians back on the Wesenberg front near Lake Peipus as German forces fall back toward Regau.
