The town reports a bustling Christmas season with toy sales large and many remembrances for all ages. Candy nuts fruits and turkeys display in butcher shops and grocers delight shoppers while weather promises ideal Christmas conditions. Sunday schools plan trees and services inviting all to share the true spirit by making others happy.
The church observes a day of fast and abstinence for Christmas Eve. Sunday Masses at 8 and 10 offer a sermon on how Christ is born in our hearts. A midnight High Mass with orchestra follows with a sermon about the light that shines in darkness. Christmas Day Masses are at 8 20 and 10 30, all welcome.
The fourth Sunday in Advent schedule includes Trinity Episcopal morning services at 10 and 11:15 with an 7:30 evening worship. Children's carol service and Christmas tree events planned in both new and old buildings. Congregational Church to host Christmas exercises and a tree event Saturday evening with gifts for the Sunday school. Methodist Epworth League to sponsor a Christmas tree Monday evening with an address on Christmas observance. Pastor Gillilan to deliver morning Advent message and evening sermon titled No Room at the Sun. Christmas hymns and special music featured across services.
The Baptist church invites all to a 7 30 Saturday evening program with a Christmas tree for children and sermons on The Birth of the King announced by the Angel and No Room for the King. The L D S Sunday school holds a Christmas day program at 2 pm with a tree and gifts for children. Elder Palmer of Utah will attend the Sunday services, and a Y M M I A concert Thursday raises funds for the library. The Y M C A plans a Christmas address by Rev George H Perry at 4 pm Sunday titled The Carpenter of Nazareth.
Captain Frederick J. Mills was formally arraigned before Judge Norrell for the killing of John C. O Melveney in the Oregon Short Line building. The hearing occurred after Mills arrived with Sheriff Howells and wore a pale, careworn look. He pleaded not on that day and was granted time to plead, with a new arraignment set for Saturday morning at 10 o clock.
Dr McKendry of Butte Optical Co. offers custom glasses to cure headaches and strained eyes. He will remain at the Hanks hotel until after New Year's to allow testing by patients, including many schoolchildren and notable citizens, who praise his work.
District Court ruling sustaining the complaint was overturned by the Supreme Court in favor of J. Campbell. The Ball campaign alleged irregularities at the Second Pocatello precinct including ballot marking outside booths and unregistered voters. The court held these irregularities were not shown to affect the election result.
A heated joint meeting of the fire department and council fire and water committee, presided by Mayor Bistline, adjourned after three hours without resolution. J A Standley faced multiple charges over mishandled property, but was granted an exemption certificate and allowed to resign, amid claims of irregularities and disputed prizes.
The mayor ends a split between Hose No. 2 and Hook and Ladder No. 1 after a heated dispute over disbanding and reorganization. Both sides back down, a potential city-wide department shakeup looms,Standley receives an exemption to resign, and Chief Brew leads toward harmony despite resistance to an independent company.
The Pocatello Kindergarten led by Mrs. J C O Melveney and Miss Rosalie Cape gave a Christmas themed program at the Congregational church. Parents filled the room as children performed songs and dances and gifts were distributed to mothers and fathers.

Notice from Pocatello Idaho dated December 1899 states the regular annual meeting of the bank's stockholders will be held at the bank office on January 1900 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to elect directors for the bank.

It provides a 175000 dollar appropriation for a new school plant and initial cash payment, sets surveying costs, requires land allotment schedules for Indian occupants, prescribes sale of improvements at appraised value, preserves Indian ownership proceeds, and outlines settlement, mining, timber, and school provisions with specific per acre payments and entry rules.
