Helena Montana December 20 The United States geographic board rules Sacagawea is the correct spelling for the guide of the Lewis and Clark expedition to the Pacific Ocean in 1805. The decision follows Indian pronunciation and the spelling in the expedition journal.
Governor-elect C Ben Ross will travel to Pocatello to celebrate Christmas before returning to Boise to assume duties as chief executive. He says he will not announce state office appointments yet, though he has decided on some major positions and aims to finish his message to the legislature before Christmas.

In Utah and Idaho, construction of the Ogden to Pocatello natural gas pipeline will begin in spring with about 1000 workers, more than doubling earlier estimates of 450 to 500. L. Fitzpatrick of Utah Gas & Coke says surveys are nearing completion and local labor and materials will be used where possible.
First Lieutenant Lester J. Maitland Army aviator famed for the Pacific flight from San Francisco to Hawaii will face a general court martial at Eighth Corps headquarters on Monday. He is accused of drinking while under treatment in a Fort Sam Houston station hospital after injuries from a collision between his car and a San Antonio bus last August.
Governor Emerson recommends Colonel William R Taylor for brigadier general in command of Wyoming and Idaho National Guard units. Wyoming would pick the brigadier general under an agreement with Idaho, which would also allow Idaho to select four staff members with mutual approval.
A Idaho committee of stockmen foresters and sportsmen urged the forest service and the legislature to create a 1 000 000 acre primitive area in the heart of Idaho preserving headwaters of the Salmon river. J D Monroe a 73 year old northern Idaho mining man died at Burgdorf after illness worsened following a rescue run by Dr Don S Numbers of Mc Call who braved heavy weather to reach the stricken miner. Monroe who suffered ruptured stomach ulcers was noted in Coeur d Alene and Spokane communities.
Salt Lake City December 20 two criminal complaints accuse R. N. Young former city treasurer of falsifying a public record and keeping false records. Mayor John F Bowman signs the charges with bonds set at 2500 dollars on each count following a special auditor report showing a treasury shortage of 210000 dollars.
Rescue boats abandoned further search after 24 hours for the Finnish liner Oberon sunk off Laso Island in dense fog. At least 40 believed drowned, including captains Erik and Ossi Hjelt, with tragedy echoing as Arcturus tows away Erik Hjelt amid his drowned daughter. Among the missing are cricket figure J W H T Douglas and his father. Only two of 12 English passengers are thought to survive.

Fellow miners said the blast was unexplainable and Busyh's legs were badly torn while his back was shattered by flying rock.
Police Chief William Chambers said L. S. Bigler 29 of Clay Center Kansas confessed to killing L. Baldwin his partner in cattle buying at Clay Center. Bigler will waive extradition to plead guilty with motive not yet established.
