Federal Grand jury returns fourteen indictments against common carriers railway officials shippers and freight agents accused of giving rebates and joining a conspiracy to gain rebates. Named are Chicago and Alton Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Burlington packing firms and brokers. Indictments allege packing houses paid twelve cents per hundred pounds under regular rates for shipments from Missouri river points to New York and that Burlington Line carried most packing house goods since July.

Insane man in Cleveland murders baby and relative

William Guy, recently released from Newburg asylum, killed an eighteen month old baby and his wife's brother in Cleveland. He fatally wounded the wife at the house where she took refuge. Police report he showed no remorse beyond not killing his wife.

Gunfight Ends with Wound to Special Policeman in Pocatello

Special policeman W. Brown lies wounded in the groin after a confrontation with George W. Hicks who opened fire as Brown tried to arrest him near Cleveland Avenue and Center. Hicks, armed with a Winchester and revolver, fled to Hicks residence then to a neighbor Carlisle's cabin before being disarmed and jailed. Brown, aged about 34, married with two children, is hospitalized with a potentially fatal groin wound. Hicks, a 35-year-old teamster resident of Pocatello, was captured after a street brawl and police intervention. Kid Allen aided in restraining Hicks at Hopson's saloon while Deputy Quigley and Myers assisted in the arrest.
