Two candidates named for district fish and game post

At the semi annual Bannock hotel meeting of the district sportsmen 12 recommendations named John B. Dahlstrom of Pocatello and Heber Smith of Grace for the fifth district fish and game commissioner post. Governor Robins will pick from the two or appoint a third. Additional recommendations cover fishing season dates licenses and bag limits. Near 110 sportsmen from 19 clubs attended with Boise guests.

Weiser Rancher Found Guilty of Second Degree Murder

A district court jury convicted 60-year-old B. V. Newman of second degree murder in the July slaying of A. E. Wiggins on Newman’s ranch in Washington County Idaho. Sentencing by Judge Sutton set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. The trial drew large crowds and courtroom overflow, with intense closing arguments from both sides.

Five Die In Chicago Victoria Hotel Fire

Fire on the fifth floor of the Victoria hotel in Chicago killed four residents and an in-room occupant. Navy personnel were among the victims, with 80 rescued via ladders and stairs as panicked guests used sheets as makeshift ropes. The blaze followed a nearby hotel fire that left 200 residents homeless days earlier.

Missing Navy civilian Ruth Farnsworth last seen at jade shop

Army search units and Island police comb the Guam jungles for Ruth Farnsworth a Navy civilian employee who vanished Saturday night from a jade shop. Her fiancé a Marine sergeant reported she did not return to quarters and a scarf jacket and handbag were found inside the shop with the jeep left outside. Wires at the shop had been ripped from a nearby generator amid fears of foul play. Farnsworth worked for the Navy base development division about two years in Guam.
