Washington December debate on the wage hour bill splits lawmakers. Norton defends protections for workers lacking collective bargaining. Dies derides the measure as ill prepared while behind the scenes work to reconcile House and Senate versions continues ahead of adjournment.
Six inmates who killed Captain Olin Sanders at the state penitentiary in Columbia were placed in solitary confinement to await trial. William B. Woods, 24, confessed stabbing the guard captain after the group seized the officer during a ruse in the prison yard. Governor Johnston had offered immunity if the convicts surrendered but tear gas prompted their exit. Captain Sanders died shortly after the assault.
Pi Johnny Revolta of Evanston Illinois dropped a 20 foot putt on the final green to win the Miami Biltmore open golf tournament in Coral Gables Florida with a 72 hole score of 282 and a share of the $10 000 prize.

Idaho prepares to issue over 115000 sets of 1938 automobile license plates to 44 counties. The maroon and white plates go on sale January 1 and must be used by April. Commissioner J L Balderston cites night visibility as the reason for color change and notes total cost around $20000.
