A Japanese envoy vows lasting friendship with the United States after World War I era German propaganda sought to sow disruption. The article notes Japan will aid the U S during and after the war, and that propaganda campaigns in both Japan and the United States have ceased since America entered the war.
Deputy Blake and two city officers arrested Barney Edwards after a long pursuit through shop and alleyways. Edwards resisted at his home but was surrounded and taken to the county jail. bail was set and a hearing scheduled for 4 p.m. in Rome. In Italy the Isonzo battle continues as ten thousand prisoners are reported and the Austrian line shows signs of bending.
Dr. C. H. Sprague receives news from Ft. Riley that his brother Dr. F. M. Sprague, stationed there, has been promoted to major and placed in charge of the aviation section hospital corps to sail for Italy. The elder Sprague, a Spanish war veteran, previously served in the Spanish American conflict and is praised for medical expertise aiding aviator health in Italy.

London reports that early this morning the enemy again tried to retake ground southeast of Epehy. Despite Flammenwerfer support the assault was repulsed and all positions held. Allied raiders east of Epehy captured prisoners along a wide front near the St. Quentin canal, and gains were made north of the Ypres Menin road.
Local exemption board members chaired by C W Pomeroy sheriff George Mabey and Dr H B Woolley examined claims filed before the board. Some appeals drew humor yet the process stayed fair and impartial with a citizen committee, including County Commissioners and doctors, aiding judgment. Adjutant General Moody to attend. About 138 did not seek exemption, 75 from Pocatello are liable for service.
