NRA administrator Hugh S Johnson warned at a press conference that revoking the blue eagle will mean economic death for violators who fail to raise wages and expand employment. He said local committees will handle cases for a brief period before decisive action.
About 300 Kiwanis members from Utah and Idaho travel to Nampa for a three day district convention opening Sunday. International officers Clinton S. Hartley and Edwin S. Shortess will speak. R. J. Vaughan leads as district president with Carl F. Chase welcoming, and Tuesday features a fellowship luncheon and a banquet with election of officers.
Senator Peter Norbeck condemned the four day Lands Committee hearing on the Rockefeller Jackson Hole park development as an outrageous expenditure of funds and a political football. He left before adjournment after labeling rumors unsound. Chairman Gerald Nye said the hearing found no evidence of unfair dealing by Rockefeller agents.
Idaho Attorney General Bert H. Miller says Idaho is named in a nationwide suit begun by Alabama to challenge the Hawes Cooper act which makes prison made goods subject to state laws where shipped. Idaho opposed shipments after 1934 and has operated a prison shirt factory, with production curtailed by conflicting laws. A Wyoming senator requested a hearing as a land transfer dispute near Yellowstone is discussed. a night session considered testimony from Jackson and Moran residents.
Three fires in southern Idaho forests were brought under control while crews battled two others. Fires in the Sawtooth and Boise forests were controlled overnight. the Challis fire remained active and the Idaho forest blaze had damaged about 100 acres of pine near Lake Work north of McCall. CCC crews assisted in fighting the blazes.
General Tsai Ting Kai and the nineteenth route army defeated about 40 000 Red troops in a counter attack between Changchow and Lungyen in southeastern China. Reports say the Red army retreated from Amoy after pressuring Kiangsi, while Tsai cracked communist lines amid demoralized troops.

George Shawnee chief financial clerk at Haskell Institute since 1919 and a school staff member for 36 years retired today under a new special 30 year rule and his position abolished August 31. A new senior clerk post was created and Harold E. Bruce, formerly at Fort Hall Idaho, was assigned to the post.
Will Rogers comments from Santa Monica criticizing President Roosevelt's Cuba policy. He argues the US cannot claim to free Cuba while keeping it under guardianship and warns against niceties without action. He cites Cuba and Philippines sugar interests as proof of motives and urges consistent policy.
In Cody Wyoming Albert Trask sprinkled gasoline on a mattress to show his friend how he exterminates bedbugs. He struck a match to ignite it and a puff of flame followed. The log cabin burned to the ground at a safe distance they watched. The friend stated it works 100 percent.
Farm administrators delegated broad powers to county wheat control associations as part of a program to curtail wheat production. The articles of association outline powers for forming county groups, appointing committees, and establishing farmer allotments for payment. A temporary county campaign committee will organize township meetings and elect community committees to form the county board of directors.
New York August 11 Baldwin Locomotive Works reports July bookings of 1 036 000 up from 385 000 a year earlier. For seven months total bookings reach 5 184 000 compared with 4 324 000 in 1933. Unfilled orders July 3 total 3 564 000 versus 2 627 000 January 1 1933 and 3 446 000 the prior year.
The Utah forecast shows little temperature change with fair conditions tonight and Saturday. Expect light winds and dry skies as the weekend approaches. Local officials encourage sun protection and hydration for outdoor events.
Do W Daigh county agent finished the last of ten Bannock county community meetings on the federal wheat control program. Eight hundred and sixty three growers attended and a countywide campaign to reach about 1000 growers starts. Contracts arriving at Moscow will be distributed statewide. Bannock’s allotment could reach 795 009 bushels with five farmers paid thirty cents per bushel less admin costs.
Boise August 11. Mike Popovich about 60 was wounded at the Sims Willey ranch on the Salmon River 100 miles from McCall during a drunken spree. Reed, son of Deadshot Reed, seized a pistol and shot Popovich twice, once through the heart, after Reed was attacked with an axe. Sheriff R W Wilson planned to investigate.
The federal reserve bank of San Francisco reports July sales across seven Pacific coast department stores rising 12.9 percent from July 1932. Los Angeles led with a 194 percent jump, San Francisco up 15 percent, Seattle 7.2 percent, Oakland 6 percent, Salt Lake City 5.3 percent, and Spokane also improving.
Anthony Natratowski 24 avoided court by claiming lack of fare to Hackensack. After a bench warrant, he phoned Judge Abram Lebson from Jersey City saying he had no money. Police traced the call and brought him to Hackensack in a patrol wagon.
New York August 11 Dun and Bradstreet reports a 16 week business upswing resumes after a brief pause caused by codes and seasonal recession. Retail and wholesale distribution expand on real merchandise needs with August clearance sales boosting retail gains. Wholesale buying returns with vigor and drygoods sales rise sharply. Public confidence and fall preparations aid expected continued expansion.
A pair of tornadoes touched down in Delaware and Maryland early today causing heavy property damage but no deaths. National guardsmen in Bethany Beach and Cascade faced tents destroyed, with 800 Delaware guardsmen injured or affected and Maryland sites reporting no injuries.
Reports from Hyde Park and Havana detail US mediated reforms for Cuba including a sugar quota a debt reorganization and land development. Roosevelt awaits action as Machado regime faces threats and a looming general strike in Havana. Militants plan to assault the presidential palace prompting guards to seal the area.
In Pocatello Idaho the AAA district manager Harry Nevers reports 76 percent of 1000 cars tested have faulty brakes and 60 percent need light adjustments. The safety lane, staffed by AAA and local law enforcement, will reopen Saturday for free car examinations on North Arthur with cooperation from Waggoners Shaw MacKenzie Firestone Amphlett Bannock Motor Pocatello Auto Murray Blair Gem State City Motor. Nevers urges all motorists to benefit from the no charge checks. no arrests or police records will be kept.
Elaine Berney 11, daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Berney of Grandview, drowned in the Snake River while swimming with two companions. She was helpless against an undertow and pulled into deeper water. divers recovered her body from about seven feet deep near the disappearance point.
Annita Caccia, 46, of 726 East Hayden and a 20 year Pocatello resident, died at a local hospital at 7 p.m. Thursday after a throat infection. Born in Milan in 1887, she came to the city in 1911. Survived by her husband, three children Lena 19 Eugene 18 Tito 16, and several brothers and sisters. Remains at Downard's Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.
Milo G. Burcham of Long Beach California flew head downward for 1 hour 46 minutes 59 seconds from San Diego to Los Angeles in an inverted flight record beating Italian RAF Lt Tito Falconi by 39 minutes 59 seconds. Joe Nikrent timed the run as Burcham strapped in with a kitchen chair stunting for weeks to surpass the mark. Falconi planned to try again today.
