Oakland reports President Small of the Commercial Telegraphers union says union telegraphers will quit everywhere tomorrow as prevailing sentiment shifts to strike. Salt Lake City sees Western Union tied up with only two men working and business at a standstill.
New York on August 10 reports a potential three thousand telegraphers walkout in sympathy with Chicago. Officials say a short strike is likely if called, noting the union lacks full local control and funds while President Ahearn claims the local union can finance a long stoppage.
The breach between the Commercial Telegraphers on strike and telegraph companies widened as Western Union brought in its first load of strikebreakers. Thirty were picked up in New York. Housing and feeding arrangements are secret, but the men are expected to be kept at the plant to prevent violence. Strikers doubt the imported workers' capability.

La Grande and Baker City orders seen, with rumors of a new railroad rate potentially lowering cost to $9.50 per ton. He guarantees his coal is superior to Pennsylvania hard coal.
