McCall Fight Turns Fatal Man Held on Open Charge
Gene Tooman of McCall is jailed on an open charge after the fatal shooting of his stepson George Allen Thompson during a fight with Dan Yergenson, a smoke jumper. Thompson died instantly when a .32 caliber bullet struck his head. Lonnie Rea was wounded in the arm by the same bullet. The gun reportedly was dropped from Thompson’s jacket and later retrieved by Tooman, who said the gun went off accidentally. The weapon remains missing.

A fisherman named Elvin A. Holker pulled an unconscious 18 year old, John C. Moses, from 30 feet of water after Moses fell 20 feet from a rock ledge into Indian Creek while fishing. Car Truck Crash Near City Limits Sends No Injuries
Deputy Earl Cutler reported a collision on US 91 3:30 PM Sunday as a car driven by Perry Wiseman of McCleary Washington tried to pass a truck driven by Lee Orchard of Fort Hall. The truck, carrying 13 youths to Lava Hot Springs, turned to pass another vehicle. Wiseman and Orchard were uninjured and Wiseman continued to Kansas City for his father’s funeral.

Pair Crashes In Hills Near Challis
Two Rigby men were injured when their light plane crashed northwest of Challis after a downdraft. Pilot Clive Holland and passenger Elliott Bonham left the A A Bennett ranch near Morgan Creek for Idaho Falls and were rescued after Holland walked five miles to call for help.
