More than 2000 musicians from 17 Idaho towns including Pocatello, American Falls, Montpelier, and Paris converge in Pocatello for the fifth district festival. Bands, orchestras, vocal and instrumental groups compete on Idaho State College campus with top acts advancing to the Southern Idaho festival at Twin Falls May 7 and 8.

Diver Freed After Hours Under Mud in New York Harbor
Edward Christiansen of Oyster Bay was trapped under about 15 tons of silt while cleaning telephone cables off Staten Island. Four Navy divers worked with pressure hoses to free him after three hours, and he surfaced in good shape saying he is alive. He directed rescue via telephone during the ordeal.

Dorothy Gertrude Scott 42, of Pocatello, wife of Arley K. Scott, died at her home after a lingering illness. Born July 20 1905 in Campbell Nebraska, she lived in Pocatello since 1940 and was a Christian church member with FOE ladies auxiliary. Survivors include husband, four children, her parents H V and Belle Hardy, a brother Hubert Hardy, and two sisters. Funeral arrangements are with McHan Henderson Funeral Home.
