Machinists boilermakers and blacksmiths in the O S L shop accepted a two cent per hour raise to 37 cents from 35 after Superintendent J F Dann from Salt Lake City said the offer came from company officials. The workers had requested 40 cents but settled for 37, saying the raise and recognition avert a strike at Pocatello this year.
A Frisco passenger train near Everton Maine ran off a defective rail early today. The engine operator E R Mead and fireman Bert Coffman died, postal clerk Campbell also killed. Seriously injured include Clyde Withers and Lene Colamita. Two others were slightly hurt and about a dozen others injured.
New York April 21 Justice Gieg rich in the Supreme court signed an order allowing William K Vanderbilt to marry again. The decree modifies the 1895 ruling that barred him from remarrying during Mrs Alva E Vanderbilt’s life. London April 21 Henry White secretary of the US embassy and brother in law to Mrs Rutherford denies any Vanderbilt wedding at his house and says she is not engaged.
The Transcontinental Passenger Association held its meeting at the Portland hotel with fifty roads represented. Chicago was selected as the next meeting site and the date set for the third Tuesday in July. The remainder of the week is expected to be needed to complete business.
Conductor Dennis Moore, returning from Montpelier, was sent to Salt Lake City hospital after a sudden violent dementia attack. He lost his memory, tore his vest, and wallet with about $20, legs and watch missing, prompting questions whether foul play or deceit occurred.
The U S Supreme Court refused to reverse the Fifth Circuit ruling in Texas Pacific Railway Co v Beheimer. Beheimer, a brakeman, was injured when a coupling bumped him, his trousers caught on a rail, and he suffered injuries. Damages were set at 10000 dollars. Holmes noted some bumping is expected in coupling cars.
District court in Topeka denied enjoining fifty six fire insurance firms for alleged anti trust violations. The state had charged the companies with conspiring to fix insurance rates. The ruling stops the criminal action under the anti trust act.
New York April 21 sugar markets moved higher as all grades of fine sugar gained five cents per hundred pounds today.
Kansas City April 21 Senator W J Stone at a Democratic club banquet told Missouri reporters there will be no abandonment of reorganization and no man unworthy of the Jeffersonian flag will be nominated next year. He warned that if such a candidate were chosen he would be defeated, adding God pity us.

Hearst files a complaint with the Interstate Commerce Commission alleging coal carriers violate the interstate commerce law. He charges unreasonable rates discrimination against anthracite and independent miners and anti-pooling actions favoring railroad controlled companies.
Al Halse, accused of killing Deputy Sheriff Tibbett and City Marshal Packard, has become a raving maniac in the county jail. Officials believe withdrawal from drugs during incarceration triggered his mental breakdown.

East School bids were rejected as unsatisfactory and re advertised, with plans for a May 1 bid deadline. A special 2 mill levy will fund any additional East School costs. Re-employments include Henry Van Sicoten and Florence Brown with a large list of teachers for next year. No formal eighth grade graduation. certificates to be issued.
The Board of Trustees of Pocatello Independent School District No. 1 invites sealed bids for adding to the East public school building. Plans by architect J. G. Robeaser are on file. Bids due by 8 pm on May 1 1903 with $500 certified check. The board may reject any bid.
The 410 Club hosts a grand tea and neck tie ball at the L D S hall on April 23. Admission is 50 cents with free drinks. A prize will be awarded for the prettiest bea. The grand march starts at 9 PM. Ladies are asked to remove meekties at the door.
