Clifton worked as a roustabout at the Lyric theatre in Pocatello.

In Opelousas area a twelve year old Black boy named Tom Godfrey was left in charge of his younger step siblings. He killed the youngest by feeding to hogs and then struck the others with an axe likely causing fatal injuries. The incident shocked New Orleans authorities.
The steamer Ebernard sank in Lake Michigan six miles west of Mackinaw City. Five crewmen drowned and ten were rescued. The incident occurred today in calm waters with ships and authorities initialing rescue efforts.
