Two Inkom Children Drown In Flooded Rabbit Creek

After an all night search the body of Kenneth Campau age 3 drowned in Rabbit Creek near Inkom was found entangled in barb wire. Earlier his sister Carol 4 also perished as a search by CCC enrollees local parties and YMCA team continued.

Idaho Fails To Share In Defense Fund

Idaho Democratic state chairman Robert Coulter says assurances were given that Idaho’s defense fund allocation would be reconsidered. He notes Idaho got funds only for Boise airport and urges equity for all state defense projects. Coulter also discussed a $500000 highway between McCall and Yellowpine to move tungsten ore, with Governor Chase Clark arriving for talks on reclamation and defense initiatives.

Idaho Rate Hearing Planned For Potato Shipments

Idaho Falls announces that the Interstate Commerce Commission will hold a public hearing on April 26 to consider rate reductions for Idaho potato and vegetable shipments to the east and south. Idaho growers expect savings up to 1 million dollars yearly if approved, with Carl De Long named as the rate expert for the growers.

Ship Reports Severe Quake Off Mexican Coast

The freighter West Camargo telegraphed from the sea that a strong earthquake was felt off the coast of Lower Mexico with clouds of dust rising from shore. Other ships in the area reported the quake and a deckload shift aboard one vessel. Dust likely came from Colima or Michoacan quake damage.

States Agree On License Reciprocity Pact

A Utah Idaho motor vehicle license reciprocity pact was announced by M Reese Hatahbaugh president of the public utilities commission. Private passenger cars trucks and buses may operate on either license with restrictions for common carriers and demonstrations. Raider Stops U S Liner On Lisbon Run

A mysterious ship believed to be a German raider stopped the American export liner Excambion during a Lisbon to United States crossing. Captain William W. Kuhne said the raider asked for identification and then ordered the Excambion to proceed to the next main station.

Four Killed and Eight Hospitalized in Coal Region Shooting

Four men died and eight others were wounded in a shootout near Middlesboro on the Kentucky Tennessee line as miners gathered to protest contract negotiations between CIO United Mine Workers and coal operators. The victims include Co. W. Rhodes, E. W. Silvers, Bob Robinson, and Sam Evans. Patrolman Guy Harrell reported gunfire on the road to Fork Ridge Coal, with motorcades continuing from the line to the mine amid regional labor unrest and a truce in Harlan county.

An explosion destroyed the Key West cemetery vault linked to Karl Tanzler von Cosel who kept a wax reconstructed body of Elena Hoyos Mesa for seven years. Eastern Body Re-elects Hansen Chief

W L Hansen of Ashton was reelected president of the eastern Idaho chamber of commerce at its annual meeting in Idaho Falls.
