From Duluth dated April 15 Eveleth reports last nights jail fire killed an unknown prisoner and burglars then blew up the railroad depot safe the blast shattering nearby windows. The safe was left behind too large to remove and no culprits were found or captured.
Queenstown April 15 reports that twelve inch gun burst during practice on the British battleship Mars killed Gunner Lieutenant Bourne Lieutenant Miller and nine sailors instantly. Several other sailors were injured as bodies of the two gun sights were scattered overboard.
In the House of Commons Palfour said ministers had no information to share on African peace negotiations and could not reveal progress at the current stage.
In Ardmore Illinois on April 15 five boys were buried by a sand bank while playing on the Washite River at Erin Springs. Eddie and Al Pierce and Parry Cox were killed. Bob Pardkor and Marion Cox are in serious condition and may die.
A decree signed by Provident Loubet provides for France to participate in the St. Louis exposition with Paris as the hosting location and date set for the event.
Two American Mormon missionaries Lorenzo Walker and Joseph Zwalles were expelled by police from Insterburg East Prussia. The movement has grown with over a hundred missionaries in Germany and months of propaganda. Berlin authorities grant meetings. the Berlin congregation reportedly numbers about a thousand.
In Brussels on April 15 the riot aftermath sees communal schools turned into troops barracks as factories and mines in Morlan welz Vaiare Mathille close. Namur sees socialist disturbances with police stoned and gendarmes dispersing rioters. Strikes spread in Brugsels area, with 50 000 workers in the Charleroi district.
In St Petersburg on April 15 the Minister of Interior M Sipiaguine was shot by a student disguised as an aide de camp. The minister was wounded in the lobby of ministerial offices, died an hour later at 2 p.m. The assailant was arrested immediately after the attack.
The federal grand jury, after noon, filed five indictments all involving Native Americans and alcohol cases. Two indictments accuse men of misleading two dusky schoolgirls, two involve whiskey distribution on reservations, and one concerns Nephi who stabbed Tom Gibson. Judge Beattie then handled various cases, dismissing United States v Thompson Mercantile Co. and continuing Fisher and Ellsworth, Heison v McFadden, and Nasholds v McDowell with demurrer and filing deadlines. The First National Bank of Ogden v Bingham County was decided without a jury and kept under advisement.
Attorney General Knox releases a letter to Representative Ray stating no legal evidence of a beef trust exists. He confirms no such evidence has been found and orders a district attorney to conduct an investigation amid reports of widespread violations. The committee votes to lay the resolution on the table.
In Washington on April 15 the Senate adopted a surveying instruction bill and resumed consideration of the Chinese exclusion bill. Tele grams from San Francisco attorneys denounced charges of unfair practices and urged passage of the Platt substitute. Pacific coast dispatches urged the Geary law re enactment with opposition viewed as excessive.

In Washington on April 15 Payne sought a pledge to close general debate by Thursday but was rebuffed as Richardson the minority leader demanded the regular order.

The log rafting industry on the Lower Columbia shifts its headquarters from Westport Oregon to Stella Washington. Four large rafts will be launched at Stella during the summer. The steamer O R Spencer towed a cradle from Westport to Stella. Demand for piling at San Francisco will keep many camps focused on piling rather than sawn log work.
Port au Prince reports the Twenty third Hayti legislature opened without incident and order has been re established in Jacmel, according to advices received.
London April 15 The House of Commons adopted a resolution providing for a loan of two million pounds. The measure seeks to bolster public funds and authorize borrowing under the government program.
William Manard a nineteen year old from near Shelly ran away with two companions and attempted to board a fast freight west of Lava. His left foot was severed under the wheels and he was taken to the county hospital where Drs Bean and Castle amputated four inches above the ankle. The youth, once enticed by stories of a Nevada horse scheme, is recovering, with the father blaming the influence of the “toughs” who lured him away.
Des Moines reports the chief of police has unearthed a tangible lead he believes will aid arrests in the Sunday night murder of the Peterson children. He will not disclose details. Current suspects are described as uninvolved in the case and tensions rise as authorities guard against lynching.
Washington on April 15 the cabinet reviewed Senate committee testimony about alleged torture in the Philippines. The President pledged to sift the matter to the bottom and a court martial may be ordered.
