The American court finished the last and longest German war crimes trial in Nuremberg. It convicted 19 of 21 defendants for aiding a criminal Nazi program of plunder and murder. Sentences to be pronounced tomorrow. verdict read over three days in an 833 page document.
Philadelphia inventor Louis Luberoff unveils the Trio Art piano a three in one instrument with a spinet look and three lids housing a record player radio and recorder. He says the device enables Johnny to practice with recordings play along and even cut his own records during lessons.
Residents in Pocatello caught only a fleeting view of a total lunar eclipse as clouds and snow flurries obscured the moon. The event peaked around 9:11 to 9:30 PM with a brief clearing letting some observers glimpse a shadow dimming the moon to a reddish hue. The eclipse, the first since 5, was visible over half the world where night allowed viewing.
Pocateco chamber reports a one day drive added at least 250 new names and aims to reach 800 total. J Ledge Craig, executive secretary, says the drive proves community leaders can coordinate for success. Officials thank the Pocatello Tribune Post and local radio for publicity. A wind up banquet at Hotel Bannock summarized the results.

The change avoids conflicts with religious and lodge services. Doe once clerked at the Skages Safeway on North Main and now resides in Oakland.
Robert D. Gallafent, president of the local Chamber of Commerce, received a telegram from Earl W. Murphy of the Idaho State Chamber praising the city’s Chamber of Commerce Day. The message urged Idaho chambers to consider a statewide observance.
L. E. Johnston, manager of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission reactor project, plans a preliminary site survey in the Pocatello area during the week of April 18. He will meet Mayor George Phillips and other city officials after arriving from Schenectady New York to discuss arrangements.
In Springfield Massachusetts a West Point soldier and his wife pretended their three children were in a cemetery to win landlord approval for a new apartment. They paid six months rent in advance and moved in with the children later.
Holy Week services at St. Josephs begin tonight at 7:30 with Rosary and Benediction. Easter Sunday features High Mass at 9 and Low Mass at 11 with Msgr. Edmund Cody celebrating. Choir to sing Rosevig Mass. Holy Thursday includes Holy Communion at 7:00 and Mass at 7:30 followed by Blessed Sacrament procession.
Fall to night and tomorrow in Pocatello and vicinity with a low tonight near 32 and a high tomorrow near 65. Strong winds not indicated and conditions appear dry through the period.
President Truman asked Congress to merge federal Columbia River development under a single Columbia Valley administration. The plan would consolidate dams, irrigation, power transmission, flood control, navigation, fish protection and related facilities from the Bonneville and Grand Coulee projects under a regional agency headquartered in the Pacific Northwest.
The second day of the robbery trial of Hayward Evans and Alfred Hale, both described as Negroes, opens with testimonies from state witnesses. Detective John Perkins testified that two other Indians identified Evans after his arrest as the man who robbed Ben Maney of $75 at the Porters and Waiters club on December 31, 1948. The wallet and money were not recovered. Attorney C M Jeffrey defends the defendants. Lloyd Haight prosecutes for the county.
Three Idaho State college leaders left Monday evening for Albuquerque New Mexico to attend a meeting of leaders of Associated Women Student groups. Helen Oelwein from Pocatello newly elected AWS president Lila Kurtz from Wendell retiring president and Mrs Evelyn Young dean of women are aboard.
A warrant was issued for Mrs. Maxine Gudmunson a Montgomery Ward cashier charged with unlawful appropriation of funds totaling over 600 dollars since October 1, 1948. The complaint alleges daily entrusted cash and silver were willfully converted for personal use. Gudmunson resided on a farm near Pocatello and may surrender later.
District Court Judge L E Glen went to American Falls to hear L W Price on a writ of habeas corpus. Price, a tenant farmer near Crystal Idaho, is jailed on embezzlement as bailee for Wayne N Mason of Salt Lake City after allegedly selling five tons of hay and misappropriating funds. Price says no crime occurred, only a delayed accounting. Local attorney Ben Peterson represents him.
The interior department opens 12,070 acres of irrigable land in Heart Mountain division of the Shoshone project for homesteading by World War II veterans with 104 farm units. Applications must be filed by 2 p.m. July 12 at Cody Wyoming. a public drawing will fix veteran priority.
Memphis police say David Prager embezzled about $19,000 to fund two wives and two Memphis amateur basketball teams. Detectives describe him as a 29 year old cashier for a Memphis coal firm who confessed after arriving from Los Angeles. An audit later put the loss at $27,762.
A California woman Louise B Musselman Sisil of Riverside sues Jesse M Chase of Pocatello in federal court seeking 14000 on promissory notes. She says the notes were part of her deceased husband William H Musselman s estate, with the will probated in Bannock county court.
Relatives from Wyoming press their bid to adopt 17 month old Larry Lee but the two month legal claim period has expired. Probate Judge Willard Lund confirms the child remained in Boise orphan's home pending his mother in Guernsey or adoption. A Boise dispatch suggested Judge Lund and his son took the boy before relatives arrived, but the judge denies distorted reports and smear attempts.
The Presbyterian Men's club met in the church basement with thirty members, where Herman Levinson spoke on racial discrimination using All God's Children by Cohen. He urged better neighbor understanding and gave a brief Jewish history. A Tenday council executive discussed sponsoring a Boy Scout troop. a motion approved to proceed and a committee was formed. Paul Brynildsen announced a fathers and sons dinner as the next meeting before summer recess.
Idaho Falls judge Clarence J. Taylor sworn in as justice of the Idaho supreme court during the three day spring term opening in the Pocatello federal building. Clay Koelsch administered the oath as Bert Miller resigns to pursue U S senate seat. Justice Wm D Keelsn also seated for first time in Pocatello.
