New York April 12 The Thaw jury reported they could not agree on a verdict and were discharged by Justice Fitzgerald. Crowds swelled outside the court as deliberations stretched into the day with no offer of final word, while Thaw remained defiant and calm.
In darkness at a north town shack deputy McGarvey knocked a knife-wielding man into submission after sheriff Quigley and deputies confronted the occupant. The unnamed suspect is jailed to await investigation on chicken theft and related acts. the deputy sustained a knife wound in the incident.
Frederick Slagel, arrested while forcing entry to the Schenley Hotel to see Andrew Carnegie, was sentenced to five days in jail. Police deem him demented.
The two story brick residence on South Garfield near the Methodist church, previously owned by Federal Judge F. S. Dietrich and occupied by Ban Johnson National Bank cashier George E. Ford, was sold to Charles Dunham for 4300. Dunham plans to keep Ford and family in the home. The property covers two lots with 50 foot frontage and 140 foot depth, in a desirable neighborhood near the Fargo home, Dick Dolbeer’s house, and the Carnegie library site.
A cable message from Manazna Nicaragua reports Honduras President Bonilla has surrendered to Nicaraguan forces. The message, signed by Nicaragua President Zelaya, arrives via Fruit Dispatch officials in New Orleans on April 12.
The Herald reports plans for a worldwide rubber trust to merge United States Rubber and International Rubber, merging control over vast raw rubber sources in Mexico and Congo under a single group.
Retiring Mayor Cleare plans a formal proclamation for a city cleanup day and to hire about twelve teams with wagons to start Friday morning April 19 Arbor Day. Residents are urged to place rubbish in alleys for free haulage, with penalties for noncompliance.

York Pennsylvania April 12 a silk mill merger with a capital of 22 million dollars is announced here today plans are under way for a merging of a total of thirty mills principally in Pennsylvania under the proposed consolidation the merger will create a large textile holding group with extensive milling capacity in the region.
The Automatic Field Glass company holds a special meeting at its office over the People's store and raises capital stock to 110000 dollars, an increase of 10000. The issue funds business development of its valuable automatic field glass patent, invented by John Fredell of this city, with 67780 shares represented.

Four Baldwin built oil burning freight engines bound for Portland pass through Pocatello en route to the West Coast. Weighing 130 tons, each engine carries 9000 gallons water and 3000 gallons oil with cabs fitted for a messenger, J D B Harvey, who previously delivered two large freight engines to the Short Line last year. The engines are in the same class as the 1000 engine on the Short Line and have been on the road 29 days.
Frank Burk William Rogers and Sam Woodburn all from Soda Springs were arrested for drunkenness. They spent ten hours in City Jail and pled guilty to being drunk and disorderly before Police Judge Knowles. Each fined five dollars. two could not pay and were remanded.
State Senator Day of Cassia county, moving through Pocatello, will oversee a May 3 sale in Fremont county of 9600 acres of state lands. Half from common school lands, the sale aims to boost annual land offerings though the board is limited to 16000 acres per year. Values range from 10 to 17 dollars per acre.

Gate City firm Green & Higsox won a major southeastern Idaho contract to install a complete Webster vacuum steam heating plant at the State Asylum for the Insane in Blackfoot. The bid near 18000 tops rivals from Boise Idaho Falls and Blackfoot. Work starts about May 1 with modern equipment and top wages for skilled labor.
Fort Hall, once mired in legal difficulties, plans to resume operations in a few days with more workers. A 4000 foot crosscut has revealed high grade copper ore, and once upraises are connected the mine will ship. Substantial investments under William Modell aim to yield dividends for stockholders soon.
Eldredge general manager of the Moonlight mine reports specimens of very rich ore from a well defined lead in the Moonlight camp. Four to six workers are kept on site as tunnels up to 300 feet have been driven. Locals believe a large ore body may soon develop.
