In Brussels rioters attacked police leaving one officer fatally wounded and others beaten or driven from cafes. The crowd set fires near the Northern station as troops were ordered to quell further violence and a General Labor party manifesto urged a general strike.
In Washington on April 10 the House agreed to postpone private pension bills to Saturday while resuming debate on the Cuban reciprocity bill. Payne sought to close general debate next Monday. Tawney urged keeping the regular order. Grosvenor spoke in favor as Senate debated amendments and Chinese exclusion prior to passage of the post office appropriation bill.
The Evening Telegraph reports Lord Londonderry Postmaster General and Cabinet member will tell the Conservative association in Belfast tomorrow that the government decided at Monday’s cabinet meeting on a firmer policy toward Ireland including suppression of the United Irish Leagues.
