Elkins Urges Stronger Rail Rate Bill in Senate

Senator Elkins spoke in favor of the railroad rate bill in Washington on April 6, urging improvements. Lawyers poised to take Haywood trio to Supreme Court

In Boise on Wednesday the defense for Haywood Moyer and Pettibone along with Western Federation of Miners officials secured a writ of error from the Idaho chief justice and will present to the U S Supreme Court in Washington. The group had sought habeas corpus claiming illegal extradition from Colorado amounting to kidnapping. the federal court could compel Idaho to surrender the prisoners if a habeas ruling is granted.

Republican Congressional committee formed with state delegates

Washington April 6 Republicans in both houses completed the organization of the Republican Congressional committee. A representative from each state and territory except North Dakota was chosen. A meeting will consider successors to Chairman Babcock and Secretary Overstreet. Likely chairman is Slewman of New York and Loudenslager of New Jersey may become secretary with others mentioned for the post. Speaker Cannon presided at the caucus.
