Hopewell April 5 Col Charles A Lindbergh fought with firemen neighbors police and reporters to beat a brush fire that reached the Lindbergh grounds near his white stone home. The blaze was driven by strong winds and burned toward a brush pile near the house before being extinguished after nearly two hours. Mrs Lindbergh and her mother stayed inside the home as others aided including Miss Betty Gow and Ollie Wheatley.

Jackson April 5 tax sales occupied sheriffs blocks across Mississippi with about 25 percent of privately owned property under delinquent tax sale. State land commissioner R D Moore reported 39 699 farms or 16.2 percent of agricultural land on the block and 12 percent of urban property forfeited for non payment of 1931 taxes. If lands revert to the state redemption could remove more than a quarter from the tax rolls in two years.

Father poisons himself and sons in Minnesota tragedy
In Tabor Minnesota a farmer killed his two young sons Wallace four and Robert twenty four and himself by poisoning milk. Coroner H E Nelson said the father gave the boys the poisoned milk and then drank some himself. A bottle of poison and a farewell note were found beside his bed.
