William Baldwin 52 of Coeur d Alene faces a formal district court charge filed by Prosecutor Henry McQuade. By information the charge involves a 14 year old Lava Hot Springs girl on Sept 12. Baldwin was arrested on a warrant signed by the girl’s father and issued by Justice of the Peace Charles W Hyde. He is held in Bannock County jail in lieu of 1000 dollars bail.
Two armed escapees from Lemhi county jail in Salmon were believed headed toward Blackfoot and Pocatello in a stolen 1948 Chevrolet with New Jersey plates LD-91-D. Clarence Bower, 22, 5'11", 180 lbs, brown hair, and Jack Leonard Ashdough, 5'9", 150 lbs, hazel eyes and brown hair, were said to be armed with a .22 pistol and were custody escapees.
Dr. Walter A. Dew of San Francisco California, representative of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., will address a general Chamber of Commerce noon meeting. His talk titled Preview of Progress will cover industrial progress, chemical developments, and nylon. Dew earned a 1924 Princeton chemistry PhD and joined du Pont, later serving with the Manhattan Project and the Atomic Energy Commission during the war.
Commander Bruchez announced a gradual layoff from 509 to 80 personnel ending December 31. Current numbers show about 430 workers remain with three and a half months to reduce further. The public works shop and supply department may be last to close after directives are received.
Mrs Emma Mable Standlee a former Pocatello resident died in Oakland California Friday. The body will arrive in Pocatello this evening with funeral services to be announced later and interment in Mountainview cemetery. Funeral arrangements are handled by McHan Henderson funeral home. She was born March 4 1901 in The Dalles Oregon. Survived by husband Russell Standlee Oakland sister George Bertwell Pocatello three sisters Anna Cook Longview Washington Mrs Lester Morgan and Mrs William Peterson Oakland California.
