Bannock Farm Harvest Outlook Bright Despite Hay Shortfall
Bannock County farmers report near perfect weather and an $8 million season as potatoes and sugar beets dig in. Agent Albert Mylrose notes potato yields per acre near Grace reach 335 bags with a standout 427-bag field on Jack Gibson’s land, while beet yields run 17 to around 20 tons per acre. Wheat and barley yields are healthy though hay crops lag, and overall Bannock farming shows stronger output than 1947 though alfalfa shortfalls and weevil damage mark the year.
