Storm Brings Accidents on Icy Roads
A Friday storm produced icy roads near Portneuf hill five miles south of Pocatello Idaho causing about one crash per hour with no serious injuries. Sheriff deputy James Johnson described up to ten stalled cars on the approach to the hill and on the incline as trucks and autos struggled for grip. Johnson warned that attempting to stop could spin vehicles. A 1949 Ford sedan stopped before an oil tanker jackknifed by driver John E. Goss Tremonton Utah. The tanker and trailer struck the Ford injuring no one but wrecking both vehicles. Traffic was diverted via railroad tracks into Pocatello but a driver later slid off an embankment.
