CIO Adds Telephone Workers To Its List
The CIO absorbed 230000 telephone workers on Monday and plans a major drive to unionize about 18000000 white collar workers. Allan S. Haywood issued a charter to the Communications Workers of America. Joseph Beirne accepted it, calling it a death knell for independent unions and a beacon for organizing white collar staff. The move sharpens the CIO AFL competition and could raise CIO membership toward seven million.
