Bonus plan for enlistees deemed asinine by Truman
Washington dispatch reports President Truman dismissing Rep. Leo Allen's enlistment bonus plan as asinine. Allen proposes 1000 to 1500 dollar signing bonuses to attract 700,000 volunteers for two to three year terms, potentially replacing a peacetime draft with GI bill options. He hints at blocking the draft bill while exploring sentiment. Photographic plates for the Mount Palomar telescope are being manufactured for the 200 inch scope.
