Irgun denounced Ben Gurion calling him a mad dictator and broke relations, later retreating underground.
John L. Lewis and soft coal operators reach a one year contract that reportedly includes a $1 daily wage increase for about 400,000 miners and doubles the 10 cent a ton contribution to the United Mine Workers welfare fund. The deal, to be signed today, avoids a mine shutdown next month and was announced by President Truman's coal fact finding board. Lewis drops the eight hour day demand, with workers to be on duty only when able and willing.
