Decision cheered as shippers win rate deferment in Idaho
The Idaho Sugar Beet and Call Potato industries win a Public Utilities Commission deferment on a 20 percent rail rate increase for shipments of sugar beets, molasses, potatoes, ores, concentrates and pumice stone. The penalty applies to farms to factories and mines to smelters, while other commodities face the rate rise. Idaho Far Bureau Federation officials and witnesses urged preservation of favorable terms, signaling a victory for agriculture against rising freight costs.
