County road department shut down amid mass layoff and weather
Bannock county commissioners ordered the layoff of about 20 road and bridge workers, halting the department until a later date and saying some may never return. County Surveyor Havener criticized the move while noting essential road maintenance for school buses. The action was justified by cost savings near four and a half thousand dollars monthly and county secession impacts.
