Airmen Rescued from Greenland Ice Cap
The U S Air Force saved 12 airmen from a Greenland ice cap after a dramatic 40 below rescue effort. Col. Emil Beaudry and 1st Lt. Charles Blackwell flew a ski-equipped C 47 to reach the stranded crew within 38 minutes, then evacuated them to Bluie West 8 base. The Saipan had meditated assistance but turned back as weather surged.
