California cabin deaths puzzle doctors amid arsenic clues
In San Bernardino County a Santa Barbara physician and his family faced a mystery after four died in a Big Bear Lake cabin. A surviving boy, Jerry, and Mrs Mary Schnedorf were critically ill. Officials said damage was extensive but not unusual for a vessel of Saipan’s size. Aerial rescue attempts were hindered by poor visibility over the icecap. The voyage, from Norfolk, Va, may miss its targeted Greenland arrival time as Captain Joseph L. Kane led the ship through heavy seas.
