Blackfoot Firemen Battle Blaze At Ice Plant
Blackfoot firemen spent a frigid night battling a blaze at the Parks Parrish artificial ice plant on 555 South Boardway. The fire started from a poorly built chimney about 1:40 a m and was doused by 8:30 a m. Most of the roof was destroyed and fire fed on two feet of sawdust insulation. Amnestied Japanese war crimes suspects released at Sugamo
Seventeen Class A suspects awaiting trial were granted Christmas amnesty by Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Sixteen were released. Dr. Shumei Okawa remains hospitalized for mental condition. The action cites Far Eastern Tribunal precedents and aims to avoid unlikely convictions. The move puzzles Japanese as some see the freed as ideological plotters. Two further Class A suspects died during the Tokyo trial period.
