In Washington the Senate approved a Republican drafted inflation measure by 77 to 10 to empower President Truman to curb rising living costs. The bill moves to the House where leaders aim for quick action before the Christmas recess.
In Twin Falls Idaho a residence displayed a FOR SALE BABY sign causing consternation. Callers misled by the placard were informed the sign had slipped and should have read BUGGY.
Residents of American Falls may donate clothing and shoes for foreign relief. Articles should be clean and wearable and delivered to Bethany Baptist Church basement by January 1 to be packed and sent.
A head on collision on Po catelo Ave near Fifth St badly damaged a 1941 Buick owned by Charles Cook of Spokane Washington and a 1941 pickup owned by Jim Colley of 240 Portneuf Park. Ralph Leavitt of Blackfoot, riding with Cook, suffered a severely bruised leg. Colley’s pickup overturned on its left side, missing rear fender and wheel. J P Christensen of Rt. 1 rode with Colley.
President Truman creates a national labor management panel under Taft Hartley to advise on preventing industrial strife. Members include leading executives from United States Steel, Studebaker, General Electric, American-Hawaiian Steamship, and top AFL CIO labor leaders. A special subcommittee was named to speed home construction with labor unions, aiming to boost production.
Two middle aged express guards fought five masked bandits at close range, saving two money bags containing about 30,000. The bandits fled in an automobile and later two minutes battled a police car. One bandit possibly wounded dropped the money bags while fleeing. guards escaped unharmed.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a 570 million dollar foreign relief bill, adding 61 million to the House 509 million. It includes 20 million for aid to Chiang Kai Shek’s Nationalist government and 550 million for winter fuel and famine relief in France Italy and Austria. The measure goes to the full Senate, then a joint conference. Committee Chairman Styles Bridges said aid to China signals continued support for Chiang.
At the Ban nock hotel during a Wednesday gathering the Young Republicans elected new officers for the coming year. Leslie Lambson will serve as chairman replacing Russ Martin, Leslie Schweibert is first vice-chairman, and Herbert Larsen is second vice-chairman.
Rotarians held a noon Thursday luncheon exchanging gag Christmas gifts. Committee head Arthur Baker said gifts matched recipients occupations. Dr John McMahon received a kid sized tool box with sewing tools, F L Copening offered a heavy equipment piece, and Judge Isaac McDougall a pounding set. Ed Dufford won for presenting a newspaper editor a rival paper and a pair of shears.
PITTsburg AP Judge Samuel Weiss refused to extradite a black fugitive to Georgia justice, calling it signing his death warrant. He freed James Moreland alias Jacob Head, 26, of Butts County after escape from a prison hospital during a three-year term for a $20 burglary, while Georgia authorities denounced Pennsylvania custody as keeping the damndest, sorriest negro we ever had.
Pocatello enjoyed blue skies and a warm December day with a high of 39 degrees, the warmest since the first. Weatherman John Sherry predicts little temperature change Friday with a partly cloudy outlook, a high of 35 to 40 degrees, and a low of 20 to 25. Sunrise rises at 7:56 a.m. and sunset at 4:57 p.m.
Ten men faced federal charges for conspiracy to oppress voters in the August 1946 Democratic fifth congressional district primary election. They included Chas ea, Grover McMillan, Joe Grin Ty Stewart, Morris ks, Frank Truax, Dorris Sarten, and Benjamin Ryan. Twelve asked about related tampering, with McKissick earlier acquitted on a separate count.
Idaho potato growers were warned not to use benzine hexachloride to treat wire worms due to adverse taste effects. State officials reported one affected 4 acre plot in eastern Idaho. Wilson Kellogg and Lee Wagner said they found potatoes tasted musty and bitter after the chemical was used, though some growers plan to use it next year.
Boise Idaho reports bids called for levy and revetment work on the Boise and Payette rivers. Opening dates set for January 6 for Strawberry Glenn to Ballantine head along the Boise river and December 30 for Payette river sites at Highsmith and Smith-Tschudy.

The House plans to act Friday on a related probe of alleged insider government speculation. President Truman said he would sign the measure and defended releasing the list to the public, criticizing Senate Republicans over subpoenas. Senator Homer Ferguson led the resolution on behalf of the committee.

A sideshow highlight features a boy named Joey selected to draw tickets who, after drawing once, wanders off, becoming the crowd favorite and leaving Mrs Humphrey dismayed.
City council votes to seek a $130,000 sewer bond for a first phase interceptor sewer and delays a proposed $50 per machine slot licensing fee increase. The meeting also bans illegal slot machine tampering, tightens garbage rules, approves various property annexations and city leases, and orders bids for a prison feeding contract and street department equipment.
Secretary of State George C. Marshall travels to Washington to address the public on the break-up of the Big Four foreign ministers conference and to direct his staff in intensified Cold War direction against Iron Curtain Europe. He will speak at 10 p.m. EST, outlining a plan to push recovery through Congress and stressing closer Anglo American cooperation in Europe.
