Power Suit continues on government control of Idaho power
The government would bar local growth and development if it cannot secure a proprietary right in electric systems in Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon. Idaho Power notes 65 percent of Idaho is federally controlled and new regulations would affect future transmission lines crossing public lands. The Bliss plant’s 190 mile line would cross 125 miles of public domain, and Idaho Power operates 612 miles on federal lands. The company cites a $78 million wartime construction program as evidence of ample power supply and notes the new Bliss hydro plant, near Bliss on the Snake River, will come online before winter, but requires transmission lines to Boise and American Falls costing about $3 million plus more.
