Fingers That See and Learn at Blind Institute
The New York Institute for the Education of the Blind trains children from ages three to twenty one to read through touch. Photographs from Science Illustrated show blind students mapping animal forms by touch at the zoo and then recreating clay images, while pursuing strong academic and vocational preparation for college or business careers. Blind workers excel in darkrooms and in semi automatic machinery, where sight is a distraction.
